How to Handle Embarrassing Parents

Friday, January 18, 2013

Admit it, your family can be mortifying at times. We have all experienced the I-wish-I-could-disappear feeling when your bratty sister or loud mother are being obnoxious in a crowded room. Why do we let it affect us so much? Although society has a habit of judging others due to the crowd they socialize with, the person you are beside does not define you.

If you choose to walk away from someone, do it because you want to, not because you worry how it will appear to others. Your clothes, cell phone, house, car, etc. only defines you if you let it. Someday that annoying sister and aggravating mother will no longer be here and you will miss them and all of those little quirks that sometimes drive you crazy. Do not make your friends and family feel ashamed for being who they are. You have your own bothersome imperfections too, so before you start criticizing someone else's, imagine how you would feel if someone picked apart every one of your irritating kinks.
