ABOUT

HI THERE!

Don't Rest On Me is a place for fellow 20-somethings to learn how to navigate through life. Through my own trials and tribulations, I am learning what not to do. By sharing my experiences and revelations with all of you, I hope to help you skip a misstep or two. This blog is intended to help you realize the greatness within you and use it to achieve the greatness that you are capable of.

Whatever you do, do not rest on your laurels. The world is so big and your capacity to learn and love is even bigger. Continuously strive to be a better version of yourself. Whether that means podcasts and Pinterest articles or traveling and volunteering, challenge yourself to grow and develop further. I hope this blog can help you find your dreams. I hope this blog can help you create a game plan to reaching your dreams. Most importantly, I hope this blog can help you achieve things far beyond your wildest dreams.

WHO AM I

I'm Laurel. I am a 21-year-old college student with an unwavering enthusiasm for life (and dogs). My passion for helping and understanding people lead me to a major in psychology. It took me a couple of majors (and colleges) to figure it out, but I am here now. Michigan is the mitten I have always called home. With two-week autumns and five-month winters, what's not to love? In all honesty, I have come to love a place I always thought I would move far, far away from. It turns out that these lakes are just too great to part from.

WHAT IS THIS

Do you want to know the ins and outs of gracefully entering adulthood? Me too (kidding, sort of). This adulting thing sounded so simple, yet here I am stumbling through. Despite how overwhelming and chaotic these years are, they are also the most important. These are the years you will develop your curiosities into passions, dreams into goals, and snacks into sustenance. However, you are bound to face countless trials and tribulations in the process. This blog will document what I've learned not to do, so you can skip a few steps on your way to what to do. Whether you are in search of college advice or adulting hacks, this is the place to find authentic mediocrity at its finest.

WHY THE NAME

Ever heard the saying "don't rest on your laurels?" Well, the jist of it is that no matter how far you have gotten or how much you have accomplished, there is always room for more. You don't celebrate your birthday and stop aging, so why celebrate an accomplishment and stop trying? It's easy to do a few extraordinary things in your young adulthood and think "eh, my resume is enough" or "my application looks decent." But why settle for that? Do better. Be better. Because I don't even have to know you to know that you are capable of better. Don't take a step out of your comfort zone, take two. Don't get rejected once without applying twice. Believe in who you are and who you will be, and the rest will fall into place.

WHERE

is the other "W" you ask? Good question.

WHEN

will the first-grade refresher of the 5 W's end? Right about... now.
